Washington DC Chiropractors are often asked...

Once I see a Chiropractor, do I have to go forever?
The goal of TruCentered Chiropractic Care is to restore the function of the nervous system of each and every patient. Once this has been achieved, true healing can begin. The key to seeing results lies in maintaining proper nerve function over time. Our results come as a result of our ability to maintain your nervous system free of interference, not in our ability to adjust the vertebrae of your spine.
Should you choose to discontinue your care, this does not mean that you will become sick once again. However, after you have worked so hard to regain that which you had once lost, your health, would it not make sense to get your nervous system checked periodically?
How long will it take?
Just like a snowflake, every practice member is very different. While we are similar in our anatomical make-ups, we all have had different life experiences that greatly impact our health. Because of this, it is impossible to answer this question through this medium. However, based on our years of clinical experience as a Washington DC Chiropractor we have found that it usually takes six months of initial intensive care where the patient will be getting their nervous system checked anywhere between three times a week and once a week.
I didn’t hear any “cracking” or “popping” when you gave the adjustment. Did you do anything?
There are many ways of adjusting patients. Some involve a physical movement of the joints between two spinal bones, resulting in the sound that people are so familiar with. Other techniques use light force that do not cause any sound. Both techniques work! It all comes down to the intent of the chiropractor in releasing stresses to your nervous system. Torque Release Technique is focused on helping your body to better look after itself: As such they actually work better when your body is given some time to respond after each part of the adjustment is delivered. In a sense we do as little as possible to get your body to do as much as possible.
Does it hurt to get adjusted?
An area of the spine may be tender prior to receiving an adjustment, but typically the adjustment itself is not painful. It has been noted that there may be some slight muscle soreness associated with receiving an adjustment, similar to that with starting an new exercise program. Take for instance, If you’ve always played tennis and you now go and play a game of squash, even though they seem similar, they use different muscles and stress different ligaments and tendons. Similarly with these new techniques, even though the end result is pretty much the same as any other kind of adjustment. The manner in which your body achieves this change is somewhat different. The reason some people are sore after the first time they have this adjustment is because different muscles, nerves and/or soft-tissues will have been stimulated.
How am I supposed to feel after an adjustment?
Most people's response to adjustments is a sense that your body is working better than it used to. Not everyone experiences a symptomatic response to subluxations being adjusted. For those who do, they may feel achy and sore as if they have done a lot of sport without going into training first. When this happens it is NOT that something has gone wrong with the adjustment. Rather it indicates that the adjustment has worked very well. It is just that parts of your body which have not worked properly for some time, are now working with greater vigour. Your body is merely not used to this sudden change and renewed activity and it needs to be fitter. Those who do will feel this sort of response will do so often one to three days after the first or second adjustment. Commonly it will last for 2 to 3 days, gradually fading away.
Is Chiropractic Care Recommended During Pregnancy?
Yes. Studies show that woman receiving chiropractic adjustments during pregnancy are able to carry and deliver a baby with more comfort, require fewer interventions during labor, reduce the need for analgesics during delivery by half, decrease the average amount of time spent in labor, and spend 39% less time in labor when giving birth for the 2nd or 3rd time.
Why do my children need chiropractic care?
The birth process can often be one of the most traumatic events of a child's life. The spine can often be injured during the delivery. Having your child checked by chiropractor immediately after birth is a very wise decision. Spinal nerve interference from the birth process often because more serious as your child grows up. Only a doctor of chiropractic has the proper training and qualifications to diagnose and correct vertebral subluxations.
Your child's posture is an important indicator of spinal problems. Scoliosis is often caused by improper posture. By having your children checked at a young age, these problems might be prevented. Children become involved in sports at a young age. These activities can often include minor injuries. When your children play, they are jumping, running, twisting, bumping and falling all over the place. Often they will become subluxated during these activities. To minimize the chance of future health problems it is important to have your children checked by a chiropractor on a regular basis. Spinal hygiene should be part of your whole family's wellness lifestyle.
